Working for a prominent government department in projects involving road safety initiatives. Start ASAP on contract for approx 3 months. 38hrs/wk Mon - Fri $45-50hr depending upon experience. Based in the Perth CBD
DUTIES • Manage the day-to-day media coordination on behalf of the department and affiliates. • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with media organisations to provide an efficient and timely response to media enquiries. • Working within tight deadlines and competing priorities, prepare accurate and timely media responses to achieve high quality positive media coverage and minimise negative impacts. • Provide an on-call point of contact for media enquiries. • Develop and maintain media contacts and associated communication networks. • Act as official spokesperson responding to media enquiries from both print and electronic media. • Develop, plan and deliver strategic public relations initiatives and promotional events. • Engage and manage external contractors. • Identify, develop, implement and evaluate effective PR strategies, targeting local, regional, state and national media. • Provide proactive media and public relations support for the office on road safety campaigns and advocacy strategies. • Identify the requirements of the Media Monitoring service including the dissemination of news clippings and management of the external supplier contract. • Anticipates opportunities and trends and initiates change and innovation to enhance product and service delivery. • Manages a dedicated budget and the expenditure of resources to meet agreed objectives. • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the Minister for Road Safety. • Represent the department at external stakeholder meetings including special events and media launches. • Prepare news information and regular communications for key internal and external stakeholders including stakeholders, Government and internal customers. • Enhance the profile of the department with the media, police, emergency services and safety stakeholders
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE • Previous Public Relations background • Demonstrated experience working with the media and in sensitive situations • Building and enhancing stakeholder and media relationships • Provision of customer focused service • Research analysis and problem solving • Written communication • Budgeting and business planning • Policies and practices on Occupational Safety and Health, and on EEO, diversity and equity.
