Electrical Protection Systems Engineer

Manage the electrical protection section and provide professional engineering and technical specialist services for the safe, effective and efficient operation of the electrical protection system.

Oversee the high voltage protection systems of the entire RailCorp electricity network.

Lead and oversee the activities of the protection technicians and engineering support staff for effective management of incident operations ensureing protection and associated support systems are restored to safe and reliable operation in a timely manner.

Administer the ongoing development, regular operational tests and maintenance of RailCorp protection schemes and related equipment or systems, including provision of routine status reports.

Selection Criteria:

1.    Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, majoring in Power Systems and be eligible for graduate / corporate membership to the Institution of Engineers Australia. 
2.    Extensive knowledge of high voltage protection systems. 
3.    Have substantial knowledge and experience with electrical protection systems configuration as used in an electricity distribution network. 
4.    Knowledge and experience in applications software for fault calculation, protection design and grading and setting & calibration of protection relays. 
5.    Have knowledge and experience in the testing and commissioning of protection systems. 
6.    Strong interpersonal skills and high level oral and written communication skills. 
7.    Well developed analytical problem solving skills. 
8.      Proven experience with the management of a specialist technical workforce.

Desirable:

Contracts and project management experience.

Special Requirements:

•    Infrequent out-of-hours calls for incident advice 
•    Infrequent out-of-hours work for system commissioning 
•    Obtain accreditation as an Authorised Officer (Substations) in accordance with RailCorp Electrical Network Safety Rules 
•    Current RISI Certification
